Majors and Studies

The Department of Mathematics was established in 1988 with the aim of providing education and conducting research in mathematics, natural sciences, engineering and applied sciences and it has produced over 400 graduates.
Mathematics is an academic discipline that deals with space, function and number which are abstract concepts of the real world. Historically, mathematics has always been deeply linked to our modern and contemporary industrial society and is also a field of study that is immensely important for our future industrial and information society. Mathematic language is not limited to only mathematics. It is used to describe and explain various meaningful concepts and problems in natural sciences, engineering, medicine, social sciences as well as humanities. As such, mathematics is a philosophy that helps us understand the world, a science that explains the world and various phenomena thereof and also a creative art that generates new things and values beauty and perfection of academic logic system.
The demand for individuals with expertise in applied mathematics is increasing as our society becomes more informatized and as more advanced technicians play key roles in our industries and economy.
The Department of Mathematics, while focusing on providing education and conducting research in applied mathematics, offers basic courses on mathematic principles and mathematic thinking as well as mathematics, statistics and insurance mathematics courses that deal with scientific computations such as mathematic modeling, numerical analysis and computational mathematics. The Department also encourages the students to fully take advantage of computers and strengthen their technical computer skills. Currently, the applied mathematics courses include computer session where the students use computer programs for solving problems.
