Professor Jang Min’s Research team of the Department of Environmental Engineering at Kwangwoon University (Co-author), Soyeon Yoon, Combined Master’s and Doctorate Course (first author), Minji Kim, Master's researcherJong Cho-eun, a research professor (Co-author) and Professor Choi Eunha (Director) & Professor Jangmin (Deputy Director) of Plasma Bio Center (PBRC) successfully developed hydrophilic sulfur-bearing zero valent iron (S-nZVI) as a biocatalyst to improve the biological denitrification of nitrate in groundwater, and identified the nitrate reduction mechanism.

This research was carried out with the support of the National Research Foundation of Korea Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Science and ICT (2021R1A6A1A03038785) and the Korea Environmental Industry and Technology Institute (2018002480006) and was published in the Journal of Hazardous Science on June 15, 2023. It was published in Materials (IF: 14.22, JCR rank: 3.2%) under the title of "Hydrophilic sulfurized nanoscale zero-valent iron for enhancing in situ biocatalytic denitrification: Mechanisms and long-term column studies".
