Professor Shin Won-ho's team (Department of Electronic Materials Engineering) at Kwangwoon University has developed the electrode material technology for an aqueous electrolyte supercapacitor that eliminates the risk of fire, which is a fatal shortcoming of existing organic-based electrolytes in energy storage systems.

The research was carried out with the support of the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF-2020R1F1A1071311) and the next-generation power semiconductor human resources training project (P0012451). The research results were published and selected as a cover image in "Journal of Materials Chemistry A (IF: 12.732)" of the Royal Society of Chemistry, the world's best international academic journal in the field of nanomaterials and chemistry.
