Professor Jong-min
Oh's team from the Department of Electronic Materials Engineering at Kwangwoon
University, along with teams led by Professors Sang-mo Koo and Min-kyung Kim, and
Professor Sung-hoon Kim from Dong-eui University's Department of Applied
Chemistry, has been selected for the pioneering field project of the Global
Research Laboratory Support Program (Basic Research Laboratory, hereafter BRL),
a highly competitive group research project.
The BRL program,
supported by the Ministry of Science and ICT and managed by the National
Research Foundation of Korea, is a project that supports small-scale basic
research groups focused on specific research topics to strengthen the nation's
basic research capabilities. Among these, the pioneering field project supports
the growth of talented young researchers by funding creative and challenging
research in areas that have been rarely explored in Korea.
As a result of being
selected for the BRL project, Professor Jong-min Oh's research team will
receive a total of 1.375 billion won in research funding from August this year
until April 2027 for their project, 'Breath-Powered Human Interface Sensing
System Laboratory.'
The BRL collaborative
research team will develop a compact, eco-friendly human interface system that
can be attached to the body, continuously generating power from the moisture in
breath to wirelessly detect disease-related information, such as biorhythms and
pneumonia, and will conduct international collaborative research on materials,
processes, elements, and systems with research institutes in France and Sweden.
Professor Jong-min Oh, the head of the research, stated, "If this system is developed and commercialized, it will be a groundbreaking human interface technology that can be easily worn by people of all ages in daily life, significantly improving health and quality of life. More importantly, through this group research project, I hope to continuously cultivate the next generation of interdisciplinary specialists in Korea.
