Kwangwoon University Holds the First Commencement Ceremony of 2023

Kwangwoon University Degree Conferral Ceremony of 2023

The degree conferral ceremony for the 2023 academic year took place on Monday, February 26^th, at 10:30 AM at the Donghae Cultural Arts Theater. Chairman Chosun Young, President Jangho Chun, Alumni Association President Min-su Kim, members of the academic affairs committee, and graduates from undergraduate to doctoral levels attended the ceremony.

Following the opening ceremony, the degree conferral ceremony consisted of the national anthem, academic reports, the congratulatory speech by Chairman Sun Young Cho, the address by President Jangho Chun's, the speech by Alumni Association President Min-su Kim, and a graduation speech by representative graduate Hye-do Kim (School of Robotics).

Addressing the graduates, Chairman Sun Young Cho asked the graduates, "As your future is shaped by your own choices and decisions, do not neglect learning and use what you have learned to exert positive influence even after graduation."

President Jangho Chun said, "I hope your start at Kwangwoon will become a butterfly effect, and through Kwangwoon's pioneering spirit, challenging mindset, and creative convergent thinking, you will fulfill your responsibilities in society and achieve big dreams."

In his congratulatory speech, Alumni Association President Min-su Kim said, “, I hope that Kwangwoon’s graduates will boldly challenge new things and continue their valuable connection with Kwangwoon and become the future leaders.

This year, the overall top student, Young-wook Kim, (School of Computer and Information Engineering Department), received the highest award, and six seniors from each college received excellence awards. Additionally, Young-rim Koo (Dept. of Architecture Engineering), who served as the vice chairman of the 2023 student council, and ten others were honored with merit awards and alumni association president's awards.

In the following graduation speech, Hye-do Kim, who led the robot game team, spoke on behalf of the graduates, saying, "I am grateful to Kwangwoon University, including professors who devoted themselves to education and the administrative staff for their administrative support, and I will move towards my dreams starting with graduation, which is another starting line in my lives."

During this commencement ceremony, degrees were conferred to 1,462 bachelors, 88 bachelors under the credit banking system, 251 masters, and 68 PhDs, bringing Kwangwoon University’s total number of graduates to 63,644bachelors, 12,849 masters, 1,870 PhDs, 2,795 graduates of the CEO program, and 9,942 graduates of special programs since its founding.
