Opening Ceremony of 「DDM Youth Startup Center Unicorn」

- Symbolizing the Hope for Young Entrepreneurs to Grow and Succeed as Unicorn Companies -

On May 23rd, the opening ceremony of DDM Youth Startup Center Unicorn, located on the 2nd floor of Heartium in Hwigyeong-dong, Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul, was held. DDM Youth Startup Center Unicorn has been newly established to foster and discover capable young startups in Dongdaemun-gu, as well as to expand the youth entrepreneurship ecosystem within the local area. Starting from May 2023, it has been entrusted to be operated by the Industry-Academia Cooperation Division of Kwangwoon University.

On this day, about 70 people, including Lee Phil-Hyeong, the mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, Ahn Gyu-Baek, a member of the National Assembly, Kim Kyung-Jin, the head of the party council, Shim Mi-Kyung, a member of the Seoul Metropolitan Council, Junghoon Kim, the president of Kwangwoon University, Won Yong-Geol, the president of Seoul City University, and Park Jeong-Woon, the president of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, attended the event and celebrated the opening of DDM Youth Startup Center Unicorn.

With the full-scale operation of DDM Youth Startup Center Unicorn, it is planned to operate as a space for promoting the creation of a youth entrepreneurship ecosystem and activating youth startups by utilizing the local characteristics. It will also provide tailored support for growth stages, such as the selection, extension, and graduation of resident companies. In particular, through the establishment of a cooperative system with external organizations, such as specialized project implementation and investment attraction support, it aims to create youth employment opportunities within the local area and perform an important role in fostering youth entrepreneurship in Seoul.

Junghoon Kim, the president of Kwangwoon University, who attended the opening ceremony of DDM Youth Startup Center Unicorn as the director of the entrusted institution, stated, "On the occasion of the 89th anniversary of Kwangwoon University, a practical and engineering-centered university, we will actively support the youth startups by providing new growth opportunities. We will support DDM Youth Startup Unicorn so that it can foster unicorn companies and greatly differentiate youth startups based on electronic engineering."
