AI Translation Industry Research Center held an Award Ceremony for "2022 Evertran Inc. DMT Labs Inc. Hackathon Competition” on December 21, 2022.

 

The hackathon contest was held for two consecutive years as an extension of the AI learning data project conducted by the National Information Society Agency (NIA) as part of the government's Digital New Deal Policy.

 

The Hackathon Competition aims to propose AI services or AI business models with business feasibility, originality, and potential for development by utilizing overseas language AI (Artificial Intelligence) learning data from Evertran and DMT Labs.

 

Currently, Evertran (CEO Lee Chung-ho) and DMT Labs (CEO Kim Woon) are Data Dam businesses that translate Korean broadcasting contents into seven European languages (American, British, Russian, Spanish, French, German, and Italian) and are translated and voice data uttered by native speakers of the language. It is valuable data that can be used in all areas where voice data of the language pair is needed.

 

Several teams from all over the country participated in the contest, and the team ‘Adcon’ (Sejin Hwang & Hyunsoo Lee), of the Department of Mathematics and Information Convergence, won the grand prize.

 

The team ‘Pat and Mat’ (Department of English Industry) & team ‘Maldeuri Manha’ (Department of Software, Department of Electronic Convergence Engineering) won the excellence prize. While team "Coding Girls" (Department of Business Administration, Department of Robotics), team ‘dolmaengs’ (Department of Electronic Convergence Engineering) from Kwangwoon University & team ‘Ilchiwoljang’ (Department of English Language and Literature at Incheon University), each team won the participation prize.

 

Lee Il-jae, head of the AI Translation Industry Research Center at Kwangwoon University, said, “While running the 2nd year hackathon competition, I felt that the competitiveness of countries and industries is how to use AI data (the gold of the modern era), by combining human knowledge and engineering knowledge”. He also mentioned that Universities and industries should continue to hold such hackathon tasks and projects in terms of industry-academic cooperation.
