Professor Choi Eun-ha of the Department of Electronic Biophysics was awarded the ‘Commendation from the Minister of Food and Drug Safety’ at the 2022 ‘Medical Device Engineer Day’ event.

The commendation is awarded to individuals or organizations that have contributed or contributed to national standard development, research, and international standardization activities under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety.

Professor Choi, who is also the director of the Plasma Bioscience Research Institute at Kwangwoon University, has been working on international standardization of atmospheric pressure plasma wound treatment devices since 2018, and has been appointed as a member of the National Standards (KS) in medical products in 2020. He was recognized for his contribution to national and international standardization.

The atmospheric pressure plasma wound treatment device standard is a standard for new medical devices that cannot be responded to with existing standards. At the 83rd Shanghai IEC International General Assembly in 2019, the need for an atmospheric pressure plasma wound treatment device was announced. A new international standard has been prepared since 2020 after the necessity was recognized by IEC experts. At the end of 2021, a working group was created on the standard for atmospheric pressure plasma wound treatment devices, and Professor Choi Eun-ha has been leading the establishment of standards as a convener of the working group. The working group drafted standards for atmospheric pressure plasma wound treatment devices and presented them at the 86th International Conference in San Francisco. The team is making efforts to establish standards aiming for publication of international standards in 2023.
