Won the Best Paper Presentation Award

"2022 Fall Conference and International Symposium of the Korean Society of Biotechnology and Biotechnology" was held from September 28 to 30, 2022. Seung-mi Lee (advisor: Cheol-hwan Park, Department of Chemical Engineering), a student attending the master's course in Chemical Engineering at the Graduate School of Kwangwoon University, participated in the conference, and was awarded the Best Paper Presentation Award. About 9,000 BT-related companies and experts are active members of the Korean Society of Biotechnology and Biotechnology, and it is a representative society in the field of biotechnology that leads the Asian Federation of Biotechnology (AFOB).

At this conference, 791 latest research results were presented under the theme of "Advanced Biotechnology for Bioindustry 4.0", as well as 576 posters. Student Seungmi Lee presented the subject of "Effect of molar ratio and solvents on enzymatic synthesis of puerarin palmitate" in the field of Microbial and Bioprocess Engineering.  Her work was selected as an “outstanding research result” within the top 3% of the poster presentation section. She was awarded Best Paper Presentation Award. A new high value-added antioxidant material based on biomass was synthesized, and because of considering the scalability to the process and practical industrial applicability, it received this award in recognition of its excellence in presentation.

Seungmi Lee is a student who is continuously conducting research on the design of enzymatic reactions and biological processes. She said, “It was a pleasure to be able to introduce to many people an interesting study from the selection of substances to the design and analysis to synthesize high value-added antioxidants. As it is a field that I have been continuously researching, I will finish the remaining research well and lay the foundation for a career related to that field.” Student Seungmi Lee received the Grand Prize, the President's Award, at the "14th Engineering College Academic Festival" hosted by Kwangwoon University College of Engineering in 2020, during her 4th year of undergraduate studies. She has been awarded the Excellence Award (WISET Director's Award & Chemical Engineering President's Award) in "She is the WISET 2020 Graduate Student Engineering Research Team.

Professor Cheol-Hwan Park, the advisor, has been actively conducting research activities, including 225 SCI(E) papers, 55 domestic papers, 39 patent registrations, and 385 academic presentations. He is currently serving as the Planning and Business Director of the Society. Professor Cheol-Hwan Park of the Department of Chemical Engineering who led the research said, “I feel rewarded to see the students growing up. We hope that our students will become talents who can contribute to the development of the bioprocessing field in the future based on their various research experiences.”
