Kwangwoon University, Seoul Campus Town Comprehensive Project 2nd Consecutive Selection

Kwangwoon University has been selected for the second consecutive year in the Seoul Campus Town New Public Competition Comprehensive Project conducted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government. Kwangwoon University, together with Nowon-gu, submitted a proposal worth 10 billion won to “Creating a Northeast Startup Valley through Industry-Academic-Private-Private Cooperation Campus Town 2.0”. After competing with a total of 13 universities, the final four universities (Kwangwoon University, Chung-Ang University, Ewha Womans University, and Hanyang University) were selected.

[Realization of Campus Town 2.0 through Scale-Up]

 

 

Kwangwoon University campus town project started with the first unit type project in 2016. It has been selected for the 2nd comprehensive project in 2019 and is in progress, continuing the process results of the unit-type project and the comprehensive project, and overcoming the limitations of the promotion process. The 3rd campus town comprehensive project aimed to complete the startup ecosystem from 2023 to 2026. 

 

Professor Park Taewon (Department of Urban Planning and Real Estate), Head of Campus Town Project, led this project competition. In his speech he said, “Based on the n-Keuref model that applied the German Euref innovation campus to the campus town 2.0 model that was differentiated from the existing business, we proposed the creation of a startup valley in the Northeast region centered on technology startups. Kwangwoon University was selected in recognition of its differentiation from other universities.”

 

The core concept of this project is “Stairway to Scale-up, Realizing Campus Town 2.0 through Scale-up” and presented a step-by-step strategy to realize the creation of From Start-up Alley to Unicorn Valley as a vision.

 

Kwangwoon University Campus Town Project Based on the university's technological start-up capabilities accumulated over the past 7 years, we plan to operate start-up business nurturing, start-up talent nurturing, and regional revitalization programs. Through financial linkage with Nowon-gu, local festivals and local commercial district revitalization programs will also be promoted.

 

The university is expected to solidify its position as a hub for industry-university cooperation in the northeast region by selecting the Seoul Campus Town project for the second time in a row. In addition, the Kwangwoon University campus town project in connection with the opening of the GTX-C line, the development of the new economic center in Changdong, and the development of the Kwangwoon University station area is expected to be of great help to Nowon-gu's economic vitality and job creation.
