2022 Fall Semester

KW&I International Students Program Guide

 

1. KW&I International Student Program Contents and Purpose

-  Learning support program for management of academic warnings (low GPA)

-  Participate in programs in levels 1-4 during the semester

-  Upon the program completion, the academic probation process is withheld for one semester by the "Department of Academic Probation and Accumulation of Low Grades

*   If the academic probation was withheld 3 times in a row or a total of 4 times, the student becomes a subject for academic probation

*   Program completion is possible multiple times, but in the system, it will be counted as one time during enrollment

-  For foreign students with academic warnings who lack Korean language skills and class adaptability, it is an opportunity to improve through the 4-step improvement plan.

 

2. Who can register:

Foreign students who are subject to academic probation from the previous semester (2022 Spring Semester), and any student who received an academic warning and have TOPIK level 3 or lower.

Students with TOPIK level 4 or higher should apply for the KW&I Learning Design Program at the Center for Teaching and Learning.

· Consultation with a students head professor (or advisor)

- 4 months (September - December)

- total of 6 meetings

- e.g., 2 meetings in October-November and 1 meeting in September and December

Coaching

Taking an online class about University Life and Learning

·Kwangwoon student life guide videos

- How to use KLAS (basic/advanced), send e-mails, proper communication etiquette, Korean classes introduction, and courses guide

- For all program participants

- Less than 50 minutes to watch

 

·Video-explanation of the basics of your major

- Only for the students whose major is connected to Business Administration, International Trade, Media and Communication

- 50 minutes video

Classes

International Students Tutoring

·Major classes and homework, writing reports, etc.

- Tutor: average grade of B (GPA 3.0) or higher in the previous semester that has the same nationality as a tutee

 *If there are no applicants who meet the above requirements, the Korean student might be assigned as the tutor

- Tutee: All Program Participants

- 6 online or offline learning activities, a total of 10 hours or more

- 4 months (2 times in October and November, once in September and December (the number of sessions/month can be different))

- Submit the written agreement (서약서) on that day

- Watch a 50-minute video

(2 videos for the students whose majors are Business Administration, International Trade or Media and Communication)

Counseling for those with academic probation (professional counselor)

 Counseling schedule can be changed if professor and counselor agree

- Average grade B (GPA 3.0) or higher in the previous semester, tutor and tutee of the same nationality

5. KW&I International Student Program Application Guidelines

- Application period: 2022.09.05(Mon) - 2022.09.16(Fri)

- How to apply: Apply by email (namo7509@kw.ac.kr) including the following information:

Student number/Name/TOPIK level/Phone number/E-mail address

Please, note that even after submitting your application, you are not guaranteed to be accepted to the program, since there might be no matching mentors or mentees. 

It is best if the tutor has an average B grade (GPA of 3.0) or higher in the previous semester and is of the same nationality as the tutee.

If you already found a tutor, please along with your information include the tutors Student ID/Name/GPA from the previous semester/Nationality/Phone Number/E-mail address when sending an e-mail.
