Kwangwoon University's Professor Park Kyudong's team (School of Information Convergence, Department of Artificial Intelligence Applied Science) was selected for the ICT R&D innovation voucher support project hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and implemented by the IITP.

Professor Park Kyudong's team is developing and commercializing artificial intelligence-based self-training and monitoring solutions for Parkinson's disease patients in the bio-health field among the eight leading technologies. Through this, they plan to expand the service to the rehabilitation of Parkinson's disease patients by grafting facial and vocal feature recognition technology into the healthcare service platform.

The core technologies that will be implemented are AI-based facial feature recognition, voice signal preprocessing and feature identification technology for vocal movement, EMG sensor-based indexing, real-time audiovisual interaction, feedback design, user modeling, and customized exercise method recommendation, etc. The team plans to build an MLOps system that systematically collects face image data and voiced voice data and continuously improves artificial intelligence models based on it.

The main results of the study include the ability to perform facial and vocal exercises using the smartphone's front camera and microphone, visualize the degree and effect of the exercise in real-time, and compare past exercise history to check for progress. This complex management of the user’s physical activity can be useful in the field of bio-health and rehabilitation, for example, a function that offers individualized exercises.

Professor Park Kyu-dong's team (HCI), which has strengths in human-computer interaction (UX), and artificial intelligence (AI), aims to create synergy between expertise in sports for disabled people and ICT technology. The research is conducted with a grant of 416 million won from the government out of the total research cost of 520 million won.
