Kwangwoon's 88th Anniversary Ceremony

- Chairman Cho Seonyoung, “We must keep following the founder's philosophy on education that nurtures a person with a pragmatic spirit and a loving heart”

- President Kim Jongheon, “I hope that members will work together to become the outstanding Kwangwoon.”

- Cho Kwangsik, Chairman of the Alumni Association “We will become Kwangwoonins [Kwangwoon people] who work together and do their best.”

A ceremony to commemorate the 88th anniversary of the founding of Kwangwoon University was held on May 19, 2022 (Thursday) at 10:30 at the small theater of the Donghae Culture and Arts Center. The event was held to celebrate the founding of Kwangwoon, which is heading towards its 100th anniversary. Following the COVID-19 pandemic and the easing of social distancing guidelines, the first president of Kwangwoon University, Cho Mooseong, Kwangwoon University Chairman Cho Chonyoung, Kwangwoon University President Kim Jongheon, Kwangwoon University Alumni Association Chairman Cho Kwangsik, and Kwangwoon University emeritus professors and faculty members participated in the offline event.

The ceremony began with a celebratory meal, followed by national rituals, readings of the founding spirit, commemorative speeches by Chairman Cho Seonyoung, congratulatory remarks by President Kim Jongheon, and congratulatory speeches by Kwangwoon University Alumni Chairman Cho Kwangsik, and various awards. 

Chairman Cho Seonyoung said, “We must keep following the founder's philosophy on education that nurtures a person with a pragmatic spirit and a loving heart”. He added, "Kwanwoon's latest vision is to focus on education that nurtures a human-like personality with a heart of love, thinking about the social changes that can appear with new technologies, the environment that can be destroyed, morality and privacy. Let's create a culture of deep conversation at Kwangwoon”.

President Kim Jongheon said, "Let's not forget the gratitude to the members who worked hard behind the scenes so that Kwangwoon, founded by Dr. Cho Kwangwoon, could reach its 88th anniversary. Until the 90th anniversary of the founding of Kwangwoon Academy, which will be in upcoming 2024, following the founder's will, we will strive to develop new science and technology education, share and love together. Let's all do our best by gathering valuable wisdom so that we could take off as a “제2의창학” by the 100th anniversary of the Kwangwoon foundation." 

Kwangwoon University Alumni President Cho Gwangsik praised Kwangwoon's status by saying, "Kwangwoon people, who have nurtured outstanding talents based on Dr. Cho's educational philosophy 'Veritas et Lux', are playing important roles in this era. Kwangwoon alumni and the general alumni association, who are shining Kwangwoon in all areas of life, will become Kwangwoon people who work together so that the alma mater can develop into the best university.”

Successive awards include the Longevity Award (12 people with 30 years of service, 4 people with 20 years of service, 13 people with 10 years of service), Best Teacher Award (3 people), the Chambit Education Award (2 people), the Chambit Academic Award (3 people), the Industry-University Cooperation Award (4 people), Chambit Exemplary Award (4 people), Administrative Service Award (2 people), and others.
