Professor Jang Min (Department of Environmental Engineering, Deputy Director of PBRC) was selected as one of the ‘Top 50 Excellence in Academic and Research Support Project by the Ministry of Education’ and received the Minister’s Award. The Ministry of Education (Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Yoo Eun-hye) received 138 candidate projects through public offerings and recommendations among 24,276 academic and research support projects announced in 2020. The 50 best achievements were finally selected. The awards ceremony was held online and offline at Lotte City Hotel Daejeon on Thursday, December 16th.

Prof. Jang Min's team produced a photocatalyst-based material, which has recently been gaining attention, and derived a successful result in removing trace organic compounds in water and tried to understand it more deeply through modeling analysis. Through the research, it contributed to the improvement of knowledge of the activation mechanism of the Z-scheme and Type-II heterojunction structures in relation to the photocatalyst research field, and the development of photocatalysts that are activated even under visible light conditions and the development of micro-pollutant treatment technology using them to compete in the water treatment industry. It is expected that it will contribute to securing competitiveness in the photocatalyst development industry by developing a molecular level analysis method of the photocatalyst activation mechanism.

The Ministry of Education announced that it will give preferential treatment to researchers selected in Top 50 Excellence in Academic and Research Support Project in the future, such as granting additional points when selecting new tasks for academic and research support projects under the Ministry of Education and will support the researcher's continuous output of excellence. In addition, the excellent results will be produced as a casebook by February 2022 and distributed to research institutes and universities across the country and will be posted on the online performance exhibition hall of the National Research Foundation of Korea website.
