RO:BIT Wins Seven Categories at Major Robot Competitions in 2020

- Awarded a total of 7 awards including the Presidential Awards at 2020 SRC IRC, STEAM CUP-IRC, R-BIZ Challenge -

Kwangwoon University’s robot game team, Ro:bot won a total of seven awards at the R-Biz Challenge Competition, STEAM CUP-IRC Competition and 2020 SRC IRC Competition, which was held for four days from October 28 (Wednesday) to October 31 (Saturday).

Ro:bit won 3rd place (Korea Robot Industry Association President’s Award) in the Zeus Industrial Robot ZERO Mission Challenge category of the R-BIZ Challenge and ranked 1st in the SEOULTECH Intelligent Robot-intelligent Wrestling Robot category in the SRC IRC Competition. It won the Minister of Commerce and Energy Award, 1.5 million won) and second place (National Institute of Technology and Standards Award, 1 million won). Also, in the humanoid robot sports-intelligent high-tech category, it won the overall 1st (President’s Award, 2 million won) and the 3rd (Korea Robot Industry Promotion Agency Award, 500,000 won). In addition, in the Turtlebot 3 Auto Race category of the 2020 STEAMCUP-IRC Competition, it won the 2nd place Gold Prize (Korea Robot Industry Promotion Agency Award) and the 3rd ranked Silver Prize (Korea Robot Industry Promotion Agency Award).

Ro:bit won the championship for the third consecutive year in the field of intelligent wrestling robots that use motors and distance sensors to find opponents and push them out of the stadium, showing excellent performance through strong power and fast reaction speed.

In addition, in the Intelligent Humanoid Division, which performs missions by autonomously recognizing the surrounding environment using cameras and sensors, it participated in a tower-building event in which 8 discs of different color and sizes are stacked on a given column in larger order and participated in marathon event that recognizes the path of about 49 meters. Overall, they won the 1st (President’s Award) and 3rd (Promotional Agency Award) for accurate and fast mission performance.

In the STEAM CUP-IRC Turblebot 3 Auto race Competition, a mobile robot based on ROS software that performs autonomous driving missions and evaluates driving ability and mission-solving ability, the 2nd place gold prize and 3rd place silver prize were won for stable algorithm and efficient image processing.

The Zeus Industrial Robot ZERO Robot Mission, one of the R-biz Challenges, is a competition to discover motion technologies and ideas that can be widely used in industrial sites by expressing various movements with industrial vertical multi-joint robots. Despite being the first competition to compete based on the design and image processing technologies accumulated in Ro:bit, it won 3rd place.

Noh Joo-Hyung, who is in charge of Ro:bit, said, “The competitions were delayed and canceled because of COVID-19, but I was able to achieve this because I worked day and night to prepare for the competition. Thank you Professor Kim Jin-oh and all the members who worked hard to achieve this.”
