Professor Ko Seunghoon

Professor Ko Seunghoon of the Department of Electronic Materials Engineering was selected as the thesis presenter at 2023 International Solid-State Circuit Conference (ISSCC) to be held in San Francisco in February 2023. ISSCC, which has been held since 1954 is one of the world's top three semiconductor conferences and is recognized as the most prestigious society in the field of semiconductor integrated circuit systems in the world. It is called the "Olympics of Semiconductor Circuits" involving 3,000 scholars and researchers from major semiconductor companies such as Samsung, SK Hynix, Intel, and TSMC.

Professor Ko Seunghoon's team, Researcher Lee Joon-Min & Researcher Ham Joo-Won will showcase virtual bezel sensor design technology for implementing wearable device gestures in this study. It is a system semiconductor technology that reads and operates the user's gesture without a physical sensor. The chip, co-developed with South Korea's Genetics Corp., will be mass-produced to Samsung Electronics' Galaxy Watch products next year.

Meanwhile, a total of 198 papers were selected at this ISSCC conference, and 32 papers from Korea were approved. Samsung Electronics ranked first among companies around the world with a total of eight papers selected and other papers from KAIST (8), UNIST (3), SK Hynix (2), DGIST (2), Seoul National University (2), Korea University (2), POSTECH (2), Hanyang University (1), and Yonsei University (1), etc. were selected in ISSCC 2023.
