Kim Jongheon Inaugurated as the 11th President of Kwangwoon University

The inauguration ceremony of the 11th Kwangwoon University President Kim Jongheon was held on January 11, 2022 (Tuesday) at 11 am at Donghae Arts Center, Kwangwoon University. The inauguration ceremony was attended by guests such as Cho Sun-young (president of Kwangwoon Foundation), Cho Kwang-sik (president of Kwangwoon University Alumni Association), Ko Yong-jin of National Assembly, Lee Seung-ro (head of Seongbuk-gu office), Kim Il-mok (president of Sahmyook University) and Seung Hyeon-woo (president of Seoul Women's University) as well as university faculty and students.

President Kim said, “In 1980, I made a relationship with Kwangwoon University as a freshman, and after passing the professorship, I am here today as president. I feel overwhelmed with great responsibility.” He added, "Based on the founding spirit of Kwangwoon University, independent, self-reliance and practice, we will do our best to create Kwangwoon University that nurtures talented people who will become the cradle of future talents."

President Kim added that he will create a ‘lively’ university through smooth communication with university members and voluntary participation and cooperation, ‘transparent’ university that discloses all operation process to university members and ‘warm’ university where members respect and care for each other.

In particular, President Kim said, “In two years, Kwangwoon University will mark its 90th anniversary in 2024”. He added, “In 1934, Dr. Cho Kwangwoon foresaw the future in Korea, where the technology industry was virtually barren, and provided new industries and technical education. In line with the will of creating the Chosun Radio Training Center to nurture talents who will contribute to national development through this, we will prepare the foundation to become a second school in 2034, the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the academy.”

In a congratulatory video, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon said, “I hope that Kwangwoon University will develop into a university that leaps forward through creativity, communication and innovation, led by President Kim Jongheon.”

Alumni Chairman Cho Gwang-sik said, "There are many crises surrounding us at the moment, but we expect Kwangwoon to develop through its infinite potential."

Meanwhile, President Kim graduated from the Department of Electronic and Communication Engineering at Kwangwoon University and received a master's degree from Ruhr University Bochum, Germany, and a doctoral degree from Dortmund University, Germany.

Since 1995, the new president, Kim, has been appointed as a professor in the Department of Electronic Convergence Engineering at Kwangwoon University. Externally, he has served as a technical evaluation member of the Public Procurement Service, an advisory member of the Human Disaster Safety Technology Development Project Team of the National Disaster Prevention Research Institute, a technical expert member of the Defense Technology Quality Center, an IT standardization expert of the Korea Information and Communication Technology Association, and an IT advisory member of Hana Bank.
